Bedsit Poets - The Summer That Changed
- Often, solo artists can never work with anyone else. Clashing personalities, differing tastes, and competing egos, can make for collaborative disaster. Fortunately, such is not the case with Edward Rogers and Amanda Thorpe. These talented performers together with guitarist Mac Randall debut their first album as Bedsit Poets, The Summer That Changed. The result is a superb folk/pop/rock album. Both singers take turns with lead vocals, the other providing the harmony. In either case, their voices fit perfectly together, as if they’ve been singing together for years. Amanda’s stunning voice is a gift for the ear. She delivers on powerful tracks like “Reach for the Sky.” A perfect contrast to Amanda’s strong vocals, Edward’s subtle voice is great on tracks such as, “Black Heart.” When the pair sings together, on tracks like “Simple Twist of Emotion,” neither outshines the other. Mac Randall provides excellent guitar melodies to compliment Edward and Amanda’s vocals. The album’s theme is an old one, love. Yet, the lyrics are beautiful, and give new life to this common idea.
