45 Grave - Only the Good Die Young
- Why Only the Good Die Young... nobody really knows. And if you are looking for answers in the .45 Grave 1989 album of the same name, I assure you that you will leave empty handed. I trawled each and every rock offering and found little or zero head banging, but unearthed plenty of headaches.
The music wanted to lend itself to my better ear, but did not push over those delicate boundaries bundled over by other well known punk rockers.
Lead Singer Dinah Cancer bellows at every given opportunity, reminding us we are here to follow her lead and no one else. At times I wanted to believe her, but she hastily dismantled the chances I gave by not moving any mountains musically... I left feeling somewhat disowned.
Bad Love is one of the few highlights. By mixing strong melodies with punches of Cancer’s strangled voice. “I love you, that’s the truth... that’s why I am killing you,” is a reminder of love at its darkest moment and is spoken with such potency, I am left wondering if its me she’s after.
I felt somewhat used at the end of the album. The music delivered little apart from a few high roads here and there. Its insufficiency became clear to see as the album reached its conclusion. Hopefully it will disappear like an unwelcome relative, who knew they shouldn’t have turned up anyway.
