At first listen, Boysetsfire's latest album, Before the Eulogy seems a bit harsh, maybe a little too heavy for those not used to hardcore. Loud, aggressive tracks like "One Subject Notebook" and "Paradise Candy" have almost no melody and feature some intense vocals. Listening to this album, it's easy to forget that Boysetsfire was actually at the forefront of the emo movement. However songs like "Harlot" and "Vehicle," showcase surprisingly sweet vocals, considering Nathan Gray's ability to unleash ear-piercing screams. They also have the touch of that sensitivity emo is known for. Make no mistake, though, this is a hardcore album to the fullest.
