Michel Camilo - Rhapsody in Blue
- Michel Camilo does justice to Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. At first I was expecting modern Jazz and a contemporary sound, but hardly the case. Although it was a bit jazzy because of the heart and soul in it. Not enough songs! I definitely want more. I love Rhapsody in Blue. The first song reminds me of some of the music played in Warner Bros classic cartoons. People forget that the songs used in these cartoons, such as Bugs Bunny were well composed songs with much beat and rhythm. This CD is excellent. You can actually see a song and dance. Your ears become your eyes. It’s like what music did for Disney’s Fantasia or what Fantasia did for composed music. I know there was a full orchestra, there just had to be. The sound is wonderful and soothes the soul, but it is very upbeat and not just your easy listening concerto. It moves you and makes you feel the music. It has drama and comedy and emotion is every frame and bar. Great CD and would love to hear it on a movie soundtrack which would render it a musical.
