Tom Zé - Estudando O Pagode
- Estudando O Pagode is an album of experimentally diverse sounds musically and vocally. But this is nothing out of the ordinary — Tom Zé has always beaten his drum to a different beat. His love of music comes from within, and he creates what he enjoys.
Twenty-five years ago singer and songwriter Tom Zé was a member of the Brazilian musical movement called Tropicalismo. His music was initially not met with interest from the industry and the listeners, until David Bryne, while visiting Brazil, discovered him in 1989. Tom Zé then became the first artist on David Bryne’s label Luaka Bop. Soon after, his music received positive reviews in The New York Times, Billboard, Rolling Stone and the Village Voice.
I most identified with the song "Elaeu." It has this funky, crazy beat, and when the song isn't breaking out in its upbeat verse mode, it actually gave me a "Talking Heads" kind of feel.
Estudando O Pagode by Tom Zé is anything but ordinary. I tried it, because I'm always up for listening to different types of music interpretation.
