Cassidy - I'm A Hustla
- On his second offering, Cassidy continues to display the split personality from his first album, "Split Personality". I enjoyed the opening two tracks because it continued his battle arsenal from his muliple free-styles. I had not seen this particular strategy on the opening tracks before where the rapper shows two different styles and go at himself in a battlezone atmosphere. Cassidy "The Hustla" beats Cassidy "The Problem" in a close contest. He follows that with the title track, "I'm A Hustla" where he borrows a sample line from Roc-A-fella/Def Jam CEO Jay-Z. Cassidy quotes, "You boy Sean make it a hot line, I made it a hot song". Hearing the single on the radio caused me to want to see what the rest of the album presented.
I did not like selection #4 "Crack". This song in theme and production was a waste of time. He tells that this drug helps him make money, compares his lyrical flow to it, and explains that women sell themselves for it. Then track #10 "Bellybutton", was supposed to be for the ladies, but it sounded really low budget and for some school age little girl talking to her first boyfriend. Whether you talk this girl on the track into showing you her bellybutton piecing or not, it was not interesting.
I did enjoy his featured guests, like Nas and Quan, Lil Wayne and Fabolous. Track #7 "Can't Fade Me" with Nas and Quan showed more quality lyrical ability from both he and Nas while Quan sang the hook. Selection #13 "6 Minutes" featuring Lil Wayne and Fabolous was another good choice to ride in your car with, but it still could not save the album's overall quality.
Overall it was a good album with some good examples of how to battle for respect. If he had promotion and touring to back up his second offering, he might have sold more units.
