Oceansize - Everyone into Position
- The UK five piece from Manchester releases their newest album since 2003’s Effloresce disc. Everyone Into Position is a mélange of metal with progressive rock that doesn’t sound completely unlike the undeserved worship of the immense sucking that is Pink Floyd. With not a single track under five minutes this album is a perfect addition to a long car ride, because it will be something you can ignore while you’re yelling at the guy who just cut you off.
Oceansize does have the ability to manipulate their own sound over an again throughout a single track, which deserves praise, but not for the abundantly self-indulgent way they do it. The track list is equally annoying, simply because it reads like a journal entry from anyone who shops at Hot Topic. A Homage to a Shame? Music for a Nurse? Mine Host? Sure the songs sound okay, but try keeping a straight face when telling someone what you’re listening to. The real standout track is Heaven Alive, where they stop sounding self-indulgent and sound a little more like Collective Soul. It’s too bad Oceansize has a litany of bands they sound like because they could benefit from sounding original.
