Last Laugh - No Regrets
- This Suburban Noize recording artist has an aggressive style of punk rock music. I agree with the biography that mentions how this groups is inspired by emotion and introspection. This CD is a punk rock roller coaster ride that will leave listeners affected by an infectious blend of early 1990's California pop and skate punk rock. Last Laugh displays lightning fast guitar and powerful melodies in No Regrets that will hold listeners enthusiastically through to the end.
If someone is looking for a sound comparison, from what I've read, they would be close to Strung Out, Rise Against mixed with Pennywise, or Ixnay-era. The opening track "Dutch Oven" has fast guitar riffs and breakneck drums thudding from all angles. Another example of this is track six "Overboard." These two tracks suggest an aggressive, in-your-face type of anger. Track four "At the Top" and track five "Taken Away," have vocals and quick-paced drum play, which is different from the normal sound of the other tracks. Track 11 "Burn the Sky" was a disappointment. The vocals sound overdone. The whole song would have worked better without the combination of screaming and singing. The point gets lost because the vocals a distraction. Track 12 "Gone" starts with subtle music and vocals — it doesn't sound as though it belongs to the same album. The slow and mellow start throws the listener for a loop, but then it kicks in with aggression again in the middle and returns to a slow pace to close out. Of the whole album, "Gone" is unique.
Last Laugh group is comprised of frontman Charley Tobin, Tim Daley (who was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident in 2004), guitarist Chris Ziemba, guitarist Matt House and Les Jolliffe. Founded in 1997 during their freshman year of high school, the group began to earn a loyal underground following throughout Florida. In Stuart, Florida, Last Laugh survived a roller-coaster of personal, social and political unrest, only to emerge stronger than ever by finding solace in music. According to their biography, when tragedy strikes, people can do one of two things: dwell on it or use it as an inspiration to make themselves stronger. Channeling everything they have into No Regrets, Last Laugh's appropriately titled sophomore album, the band has done more than create music, they've become a voice that echoes the feelings of America's youth.
