Gershon Kingsley - God Is A Moog
- Experimental even at 84 years old, Gershon Kingsley is one of the progenitors that understood the uses and potential of the Moog Synthesizer years before pop culture had any idea of who Bob Moog or what "Moog music" was. Since then, Kingsley's name has been synonymous with Moog music, and as one might have guessed would be the natural progression, he of course utilized the Moog to create Jewish spiritual music. The latest effort of this synergy brings his 2-disc release, God Is a Moog.

Short of giving a history lesson on the Moog, Kingsley himself (and all of you reading this who've not heard much or anything of Kingsley should Google his name right now), and Judiasm, I'll just say that these two discs are a uniquely welcome addition to the Moog ouevre, and if there are any better uses for a Moog Synthesizer than disc 2's "Kiddush", I'll submit to a second bris.

Even for those who aren't Jewish, or who aren't concerned so much with the thematically Jewish melodic material and words, this is still a great disc. The vocals sound as if they were recorded in a faux wood paneled smokey recording studio circa 1971, and the sounds from the Moog itself are as spaced-out and unique as ever. It's the disc Jim Morrison would have recorded were he Bar-Mitzvahed, I have no doubt. Imagine if you will "The Age of Aquarius", sung by your temple's Rabbi on an acid trip, and I have nothing left to tell you.
