Harry Shearer - Dropping Anchors
- Ever wonder what happens during commercial breaks, when the cameras stop rolling on the set of a no-nonsense television news program? Well, you might have missed NBC Nightly News’ Tom Brokaw’s snazzy interpretations of Eric Clapton’s “Layla,” Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely,” or Bob Dylan’s “Lay Lady Lay.” Fortunately for die-hard fans of satire and celebrity impersonations, Harry Shearer re-creates these never before seen (or heard) renditions on his new CD, “Dropping Anchors.”
But Shearer does not stop there; “Dropping Anchors,” set to hit stores on March 21st, 2006, is a hilarious roast of well-renowned news anchors Ted Koppel, Dan Rather, and Aaron Brown as well. Not only does Shearer poke fun at these retired industry veterans, but he also gives the business to Barbara Walters on a little ditty called “82 Facelifts.” If comedy is the best form of flattery, then Shearer’s wisecracks and antics pay the best tribute to the end of an era in broadcast news history.
