Ben Goldberg Quintet - The Door, The Hat, The Chair, The Fact
- “The Door, The Hat, The Chair, The Fact” is the new album in seven years by clarinetist Ben Goldberg who’s a member of Tin Hat. “The Door, The Hat, The Chair, The Fact” by Ben Goldberg Quintet consists of Carla Kihlstedt (Tin Hat violinists), Rob Sudduth (saxophone), Ches Smith (drums) and Devin Hoff (double bass). The album, recorded in 2004 pays a warm and moving tribute to Ben Goldberg’s late mentor Steve Lacy the acclaimed saxophonist. All the tracks but one (Steve Lacy’s “Blinks”) are original.

“Petals”, “Song And Dance”, “Learned From Susan Stewart” “Facts” Dog’s Life” and a bonus Untitled Track were choice selections I enjoyed very much. The music is sharp and passionate.

“The Door, The Hat, The Chair, The Fact is in stores now, and would make a fine addition to your jazz library.
