Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs - Show Your Bones
- Insistent on having a blatant disregard for the fidelity of men’s relationships Yeah, Yeah, Yeah's lead singer Karen O continues her perfunctory march as the coolest chick to head up a band. The aforementioned band’s new release, Show Your Bones, furthers their eclectic, Detroit garage band feel while upping the listener’s haptic desire.
Bold and upbeat with a hint of heartbreak, the new album shows a surprising softer side--one where there is still enough strength in her body and voice to overcome what sadness and disappointment there is, but still acknowledge and grow from those experiences. The essence of Show Your Bones is just that. Like the title suggests, there is nothing hidden here, she’s exposed and vulnerable, and asking you to do the same.
Tracks like "Cheated Hearts" and "Dudley" show the hurt and expressiveness of Karen O’s voice and lyrics. They exemplify the change in the band’s direction, subtle as it may be, and yet it’s a revelation of sorts to hear them testify to emotional malcontent. Those things being said, there are still enough dirt-floor, garage band tracks to keep anyone happy. "Fancy" brings thick, meaty hooks back and while sounding a tad over produced is a treat to listen to.
Show Your Bones is an impressive addition to the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs catalog and one that will enhance anyone’s playlist.
