Bruce Robinson - Eleven Stories
- Since the release of his self-titled debut album in 1996, Austin TX based singer/songwriter Bruce Robinson has made a name for himself in country music. Robinson, in addition to three subsequent albums, has lent his songwriting abilities to fellow country artists including the Dixie Chicks (“Travelin’ Soldier”), Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, (“Angry All The Time”), and George Straight, (“Desperately”). Having recently decided to leave Sony’s Lucky Dog Records in Tennessee for the comforts of home and his own label and recording studio in Texas, Robinson has embraced a greater level of creative independence.

Praised for his genuinely expressive vocals, and an unfailing ability to write the songs and tell the tales that beautifully relay themes of love, life’s trials, and personal reflection, Robinson recently acknowledged that since his move, “My songs are a little different than what usually comes out of Nashville… But it works best for me to stay in Texas.” Certainly, this honest revelation does not imply that his latest effort, Eleven Stories, falls short of his previous artistic standards; it just has a different feel.

Personal favorites include opening track “Every Once In a While,” where Robinson’s tenor glides over simple acoustic guitar arrangements in a bittersweet memory of a distant love: “…plans fall through and dreams run dry, but the feelings remain after all this time”; and the story of “Virginia” who finally ‘made up her mind’ and chose love. “Days Go By,” with its quiet vocals, is the soundtrack of a man’s life, filled with recollections of painful losses and costly mistakes. “All Over But the Cryin’” is an infectious country ballad about saying goodbye to a dying love when nothing remains but heartbreak and salty tears. Eleven Stories will delight and pull on listener’s heart strings, and that’s not storytellin’- the proof’s in the puddin’.
