Marcos Amorim - Sete Capelas
- Growing up in Rio de Janeiro in the 1960’s, Brazilian guitarist Marcos Amorim was born into music, and over time his skill would grow to match his innate affinity for music. Rooted in the bosa nova and jazz influences of his youth, Amorim’s style of electric guitar was mentored by acclaimed Brazilian guitarist and composer Helio Delmiro. Years later, Amorim presents “Sete Capelas” (“Seven Chapels”), his fourth creative project exuding the confidence and maturity of an artist dedicated to his craft.
Predominantly characterized by relaxing melodies, the ten-track “Sete Capelas” features Amorim’s eloquent electric guitar, complemented by soft cymbals and shakers, quiet tambourines, distinct drums and ethnic percussion (Robertinho Silva), and rich flute solos (special guest Nivaldo Ornelas). The easy-listening vibe of “Sete Capelas” gives way to the eclectic, jazz fueled piece, “Mr. Z,” and the festive, very Brazilian, “Homenagiando Garoto,” (“Garoto’s Homage”). As the last track on the album, “Homenagiando” explodes with the rhythmic, rolling drums and staccato, playful guitar solos.
With its strong cultural appeal and soothing instrumentals, “Sete Capelas” captures the sights and sounds of Rio: delicious caipirinhas, beautiful beaches, and the quiet happiness of a waning Carnaval…
