Marion Meadows - Dressed to Chill
- Have you ever been put on hold by your wireless service provider or those Indian guys over at AOL who say their names are George or Thomas (but you know better)? Have you ever wondered who it is exactly that produces the easy listening saxophone routines that are the staple of what I'll call "eine kleine waiting musik"? Well, I have to tell you, I can't get enough of that music (or at least that's what the guys over at Verizon Wireless seem to think), so I was just ecstatic when I heard this collection of classic wait-time defaults by soprano saxophone player and all-around chill guy, Marion Meadows. I mean, all your favorites are here on one CD.
Whether its the little jazzy numbers overflowing with sax and electric keyboard popular with the Dell PC Technical Support Hot-line or the quick-rhythmed, R & B-infused experience that washes over anyone unfortunate enough to try calling Verizon Billing and Information in the afternoon, you'll find there's more than enough in this package to send you floating down a river of easy listening. Meadow's has even adapted his art to include such hits as "15-20 minutes before the movie starts theater ads accompaniment theme" and the ever popular "Elevator to Nowhere".
All right, it's just called "elevator music" but every time you enter an elevator with this stuff playing you end up, after 27 agonizing floors, stepping out feeling at least a year older and perchance, a little wiser. These are the non-threatening, passive tunes that have come to define corporate America: a cornucopia of service industries unwilling or unable to serve, though they do have a charming collection of a-political, sleepy jazz light to keep you passive in the mean time.
