Casey Dreissen - 3D
- The young fiddle virtuoso Casey Dreissen has built a reputation for innovation and improvisational flair and now makes his solo debut on “3D.” Loaded with playing as wild and fiery as his unruly red hair, this album gets in your face: “This ain’t your grand-papi’s fiddle playing.” No sir, just in case you thought the fiddle could say no more, Dreissen continues in the tradition of bluegrass, building on the old-time music and fearlessly carrying his fiddle into diverse musical realms including jazz, blues, Celtic, Asian and influences.

Impressive. At a relatively young age, Dreissen has proven his talents as a bluegrass/Americana performer and composer, having played with and mentored by genre greats such at Tim O’Brien, Matt Glaser (The Wayfaring Strangers), and Steve Earle (Bluegrass Dukes band). More than just fast playing, Dreissen’s sound exudes energy and passion. Who knew the fiddle could sound so good?!! Perhaps the rest of us have just been missing out, but “3D,” featuring “GapTooth” and the irresistible swagger of “Sugarfoot Rag/Freedom Jazz Dance” breathes new life into a cornerstone of American tradition and invites us to take another listen.
