James Hunter - People Gonna Talk
- When Van Morrison calls James Hunter “one of the best voices, and best kept secrets, in British R’n’B and Soul,” he does so deservedly. Hunter’s amalgam of Ska, R’n’B, and Soul, People Gonna Talk, is a delightful record which has a timeless sound which can lift spirits and announces a blue-eyed soul revival.

Recording in an analogue format with Liam Watson at the famous Toe Rag Studios, Hunter captures all of his vocal nuances, which are accentuated perfectly with lilting horns and slow burn guitars. In a world where digital recording has taken precedence over the more traditional formats, this record’s warm and organic sound reminds the listener of what is missing in modern recordings: the slight imperfections and freckles which add character and make things more interesting and more human.

People Gonna Talk harkens back to the great traditions of 60s soul, yet is still fresh enough to attract a younger generation and perhaps lead them to discover the great classics. An excellent addition to any CD collection.
