Izzy - In Awe of You
- Rock out with your God out! This set of Christian-themed Hip-hop tunes will leave you jumping up and down for Jesus and the big G. I can’t see this stuff making the rounds at church, which is why it’s a good thing they collected this on this CD. I heard similar stuff in Japan, where the locals have a unique and curious love of alternative Christian music while managing to drain any and all religion from the experience. These guys believe what they preach, so to speak, but it moves between soul and hip-hop so often I’m nit sure exactly what I’m listening to here.
I will say that you will have a lot of opportunity to figure things out. Then again, with Christian music the template and much of the lyrical necessities are already written for you. The theme is praise Jesus, “father of man.” SURPRISE! So, it’s a little tough to judge the lyrics in any meaningful way, though I guess on the Christ-O-nometer it rates at about a six or seven in terms of conviction. I don’t know. As far as the music, well…the hip-hop stuff is sort of neat. Not often that I hear those kinds of beats with those kinds of lyrics anyway. Still, it never went beyond the novelty factor for me and the soul stuff is just bland. Can Hip-hop and Christian themes really be wed? This album won’t make a believer out of you.
