Jan Kisjes - The Da Vinci Project
- «Il est mort!... La vérité de doit pas disparaît !» Hushed French murmurings spoken within hearing range of clanging church bells sets the tone for “The Da Vinci Project.” The two men whisper: “He is dead… the truth must not disappear!” And with that, the album begins just as mysteriously as the Dan Brown best-seller that inspired its conception.
“The Da Vinci Project” began to coalesce, as Norwegian composer/producer, Jan Kisjes, read Brown’s The Da Vinci Code. The novel, which probes into the Catholic Church conspiracy to conceal the “true” story of Jesus, has a mysterious, dark tone from which Kisjes drew his creative insight. So, early May 2006, just before the motion picture adaptation of Brown’s controversial page-turner, Kisjes released “The Da Vinci Project,” a surprisingly beautiful mix of somber Latin chants, heady choir pieces, expressive feminine solos and classical/techno instrumental motif.
Listeners can expect dramatic, atmospheric arrangements that aim at evoking the gravity of Brown’s subject matter and spine-tingling sensation that follows the startling discovery of an, age-old secret. “Ainsi Tout a Commence,” the opening track breaths enigma, juxtaposing somber monk chants and mighty organs with the modernity of English pop vocals and a techno inspired backdrop. “Eglise Saint- Sulpice,” with its distinct French accordion and crisp male vocals, attempts to transport listeners to a location central to the novel’s progression. The final piece “Revelation of the Truth” is the grandest of Kisjes’ opus, alternating between menacing outbursts and a chorus of jubilant fanfare sure to be a hit with ‘Da Vinci’ enthusiasts.
