Jerry Lee Lewis - A Half Century Of Hits
- Did Jerry Lee Lewis know how to rock? Yeah, he sure knew how to rock. This slack-jawed king of the honky-tonk piano thought at one time he was destined for the preacher’s pulpit, but then the fires of religion got swiftly replaced by the louder, if less intelligible, burning energies of rock and roll. The rest is history, and if you didn’t have a piece of it before then you’ll find a lot of pretty sweet history on offer in this tribute to the controversial key-slamming king.
Sure, Lewis was full of himself, but by golly he knew how to jump, jive and wail with the best of them. If you have never heard much of Lewis except the classic, “Great Balls of Fire,” then this is certainly one CD you should add to your library. There are even a few less-notable tunes of Lewis’ in here where he moves a few steps away from his rock roots and gets even more southern-fried. These songs are especially fun for people who have never heard this side of Lewis. All in all a brilliant collection of standards from southern rocks greatest artist.
