Andrae Crouch - Mighty Wind
- Andrae Crouch’s latest gospel album, “Mighty Wind” which was recorded at one of his concerts uses an eclectic medley of musical devices to express his word that Jesus is ever present in our lives. Crouch has a penetrating voice that is aided by his choir which consists of Carolyn Griffey, Danny Graham, Melonie Daniels, Markita Knight and Toya Smith Adams. The first track, “I’m Was Glad” injects the energy of Sandra Crouch and is an infectious tune of holy admiration to begin the album. Following the first track is a cooler two-minute reprise that slows things down a bit from the Godly excitement of the other songs. The composed response is continued into “All Because Of Jesus,” which talks about why we are here and Crouch’s answer is “His Bountiful Blessings.” Again, to calm things down a slightly shorter reprise follows this track. Getting close to the midpoint of the album, “Jesus Is The Lord” utilizes the trumpet, keyboard work and percussion to get the information across while also making you want get up and boogie. “I Will Bless The Lord,” brings in the use of the organ which enables the listener to picture singing the song during Sunday service at church. Yet in “Bless The Lord,” the phrase is reiterated over and over which might irritate listeners. But “O Give Thanks” brings things right back into leaping for joy with the use of the bass guitar, alto and tenor saxophone. The final track which is the title track imitates the wind and is a nice end song to an album that will its listeners really praise Jesus Christ.
