Aimee Allen - Dream
- A sultry songbird breathes renewed fortitude into old favorites and brings to being modern tracks destined to become a tour de force in the world of jazz. The opening track, “My Favorite Things,” is an updated version of the often-sung pubescent classic. “Manha de Carneval/Black Orpheus” is obviously sung in Spanish but that that doesn’t discount from the song’s angelic melody. “Daydream” has lyrics that fit together with the song’s title phenomenally such as, “Can’t keep my feet on the ground…Daydream why do you haunt me so?” “Cry Me A River,” though the title might bring to mind the ex-boy band member Justin Timberlake’s pop hit of the same name, this song is much more compelling. Allen uses a more low-toned voice than in the other tracks and lines like, “You can cry me a river, I cried a river over you.” “Nature Boy” illuminates Allen’s deft piano playing vigor. “Feuilles Mortes/Autumn Leaves” is yet another song sung in a different language, this time French and its seductive vocals could make one think they are listening to this song in a smoky jazz club in Paris. Allen’s performance on “Dream,” is in the same class as the provocative performance of Michelle Pfeiffer in “The Fabulous Baker Boys” and is the quintessential album to sit down with a delicious bottle of wine and lose yourself in.
