Sally Spring - Mockingbird
- A breathy timbre and songs about times past is what makes up Sally Spring’s, “Mockingbird.” “Take Me To The Water” introduces Spring’s ragged voice joined by Ted Lyons on guitar and John on the fiddle. “Hickory Wind” is a song about returning to your roots with such lyrics as, “All the riches and the pleasures what else could life bring?” ”Going To California” gives the ambience of Spring revisiting the Golden State to settle unresolved issues. Gene Parsons transmits his finesse with the pedal steel guitar on “I Can’t Understand Why,” and Spring paints a vivid image with lines like, “There’s a vision in the distance high above the trees.” The fifth track, “Here Come The Memories,” has a bland note to it with the line, “Drinking some wine that I found on the shelf that hasn’t been touched since Monday at 12.” The sixth track, “Old Man as He Walks Out The Door,” has Spring’s potent vocals and despite its title is a memorable composition. Sally Spring’s “Mockingbird” is an album filled with tracks about venturing down memory lane, if listeners want an album that leans that way, then “Mockingbird” is for you.
