Delta Nove - The Future Is When
- The high court of Doctor Fuzzy, in its infinite wisdom, has seen fit to uphold the right of Delta Nove to‘funk-ify’ your soul. The proclamation, issued on the body rocking opener “Get On Down,” will have people dancing in the streets and letting loose of musical inhibitions. Radiating to all corners of the globe from their home base in Long Beach, Calif., Delta Nove’s seductive potion of Brazilian rhythms, Afro beat, jazz, funk, hip hop, roots and soul has found its way back on the shelves. On “The Future is When,” these six soldiers of funk thrill and tantalize with more of the creativity and fusion that has lured curious minds and hooks fans time and time again.
Pulsing with energy and audible innovation throughout, “The Future is When” delivers. Period. Delta Nove supplies the grooves and ambiance- lifting listeners on a cloud of rhythmic synergies and experimental instrumentation. One listen to the rock-treated Afro-Brazilian rhythms on “Maracu Eu,” will attest to Delta Nove’s transporting capabilities, placing your eardrums within close range of a passing carnival. The folk lyrics and New Orleans jazz of “Don’t Burn the Beans” unearths a more whimsical side of the Delta Nove while the band rides rippling drums and ethereal flutes on the pensive “Sighing and Waiting.” The whole album will captivate; the glorious percussion-fest, “Liberdade” and the roots/ska transitions of “Bongo Bong” will leave you drenched in appreciation. Prepare to get carried away!
