Army of Freshmen - Under the Radar
- I have to admit off the bat, I do not like Sum-41, Simple Plan, whinny teenage punk groups. That being said “Under the Radar” by Army of Freshmen is not a terrible album, though I would not purchase it in stores.
However, if you are a fan of that type of music, “Under the Radar” will probably be in your CD player for a while.
The opening track on the album “Wrinkle in Time” is the group’s best song on the album. “I'll go back and find you and somehow remind you/the way that we were in the days far behind you/a wrinkle in time way back when you were mine” is a sample of the lyrics from the opening song. With its solid music and quick pace “Wrinkle in Time” has all the ingredients to make it on to MTV’s “TRL.”
However, after about song four on the album I could no longer tell when the tracks were changing. The music became repetitive and it actually sounded identical to the previous song. If it wasn’t for my CD pause in between songs, I might have never known when a new song started. Also the lyrics, about the lost girlfriend, started to get old.
With its repetitive score and lyrics, I would not recommend the CD to a casual music fan. However, if you are a huge fan of Simple Plan and Sum-41 “Under the Radar” might catch your ear.
