JD & The Straight Shot - Nothing to Hide
- JD & The Straight Shot brings a fresh contemporary twist to traditional blues music with their first album "Nothing to Hide." With influences such as Little Feat, the Allman Brothers and The Band cited on their Web site, the group fuses their own individual talents together to collectively create their own style of bright blues, which shines powerfully on this record.

The most noticeable element JD & The Straight Shot brings to the album is an impressive versatility, with the style and delivery of each track varying between strong and emotionally charged blues ballads to foot-tapping numbers that add a good amount of excitement to the record. Although the album starts off a bit slowly with the relatively unremarkable "Ghost" and "Slow Motion in Reverse," it quickly picks up with plenty of enjoyable tunes for fans of any music genre. "Back Again," "There’s Something Wrong" and "Check it Out" consecutively turn out to be the album’s catchiest tracks, while "Transatlantic" backs up an amusing lyrical narrative with a bouncy arrangement.

JD & The Straight Shot treats listeners to something different with each track on their debut album, which more mainstream artists would be wise to follow. The band even adds a spoken-lyric song into the mix with "Wish I Had a Life." While a song lacking any clear melody would otherwise be distracting, the band’s outstanding musicians throw in enough instrumental gusto to keep listeners happy.
