Jeanie Ortega - No Place Like Brooklyn
- Jeanie Ortega’s “No Place Like Brooklyn” is an invigorating twist on the hip-hop and R&B jumble. The first track “Crowded,” which features the rapping readiness of Papoose is a song about Ortega not wanting to be the other woman. The video for the song is making the rounds on MTV and VH1. Its smooth rhymes and Papoose’s reference to R. Kelly’s “Trapped In The Closet” track makes this an excellent song to jam to while in the car. “Pay It” has an electronica-like intro and with the repeated “hands up” makes this song easy to groove to at their preferred local club. “Green I’z” has a Latin tone in it and one listeners can shimmy their hips to the spellbinding lyrics like, “Look into my eyes, they’ll take over you.” “Can U” is an invitation by Ortega to a paramour for a clandestine encounter with lines like, “Can u come see me tonight? Why? Cuz I’ve been thinkin’ about u all day. My parents are gone and I’m alone, so can u come see me tonight?” The fifth track, “So Done,” gabs about betrayal with lyrics such as, “Got too comfortable to see the real you.” The seventh track, “What I Need,” begins with an echo of the title of the song that gives the song a sexy tinge. To sum up, Jeanie Ortega’s “No Place Like Brooklyn,” has street cred that singers like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan just don’t have. That distinction sets this album and artist apart from the others and makes Ortega poised to be a fury in the music industry for years to come.
