Jurassic 5 - Feedback
- A group that harkens back to the heyday of old school hip-hop, Jurassic 5’s “Feedback” has a vintage sound compounded with fluid rhymes that will gratify authentic fans. “Back 4 U,” has audience applause in the background along with some talking from a group member to key up the crowd. Bill Brendel’s cunning at the piano is put out there for all to hear and the slickness of the beat and lyrics make the music flow. “Radio” begins with static and some chimes. Storylike lyrics reminiscent of established hip-hop explode with, “Now here’s a story that must be heard about the brother who words sound so superb. It started way back with these MCs, now here’s a little somethin’ in history.” “Brown Girl” introduces female vocalist Fanetta Lowe with the refrain, “She looks like a suga in a plum.” Then Jurassic 5 zings in with jealously charged lyrics like, “I’m gonna keep my eyes glued and hate on any brother that talks to you.” “Gotta Understand” has a Prince-like character to it with some high-pitched vocals and lines like, “Up the ante on the game, apply the pressure.” In the seventh track, “Work It Out,” Jurassic 5 hooks up with the Dave Matthews Band to create an earnest song about love wanting to be rekindled with lines like, “If I could have you back, best believe it would be forever.” Jurassic 5’s “Feedback,” is a time warp to the good old days when hip-hop was in its infancy and for devoted followers of the genre it’s a reminder of its origins but with some here and now stirred in.
