Carey Ott - Lucid Dream
- Carey Ott’s new CD “Lucid Dream” seems strangely familiar while still being something new. This quality makes it feel a lot like well, a lucid dream. There are riffs throughout the album that are strongly reminiscent of many ‘90s alternative rock acts, with riffs that seem to spring straight from the radio singles of that period. This is not to say the album is not creative, it is, relying so heavily on influences and reminding listeners of older songs is used as a tool on this album. The sound of the album at first seems so familiar, but then the differences keep the listeners interest in a way that is truly striking.
The song’s themselves are light with an edge, with nods to REM, Oasis, the Beatles and even The Beach Boys. This creates a feeling of both nostalgia and exploration simultaneously. Ott’s voice is pleasant and enchanting. His talented vocals are a wonderful reason to listen to this album in and of themselves. However, the music is interesting and creates a nice dream-like atmosphere. This is one album to check out, as it’s one that can be played over and over.
