The Dark Third
Pure Reason Revolution's "The Dark Third," is filled with compelling sounds and placid vocals that make listeners want to hear the album's extra long tracks. The first song, "Aeropause," has an ethereal catch to it with consoling overtones by the band that make this song the model opener to the album. "Goshen's Remains" has an intro that could be played at a funeral procession. It includes bass work from band member James Dobson and a female vocalist. "Apprentice of the Universe" has a beeping intro that gives the song a techno sense with drum work from band member Andrew Courtney. One of the two tracks that are over 10 minutes long, "The Bright Ambassadors of Morning," features animal and magical sounds that give the track an entrancing feel that could make listeners forget about the length of the song. "Nimos and Tambos" gives the conviction of falling into a black hole with lyrics like, "All I can see is light." "Voices in Winter/In the Realms of the Divine" has a lackadaisical pulse to it with bass help from Dobson. Dobson also lends his unparalleled vocals to the track. "Arrival/The Intention Craft" has Dobson's keyboard savvy as well. "The Dark Third" by Pure Reason Revolution has a concoction of powerhouse and mellow sounds that make it an album that is on the money for any emotional disposition.
