Pat Green - Cannonball
- With a provincial voice but a rockin’ heart, Pat Green’s “Cannonball” will please both country music enthusiasts as well as firm rock buffs. The title track opens the album and it has some robust guitar work as well as drum work from Greg Morrow that makes you really feel the song and the lyrics add to the fervor with lines like, “My kind of lover, I’m still amazed we found one another.” “Way Back Texas” is the ultimate road trip song to play while musing about the one that got away with lyrics like, “Sometimes it’s a car, a certain shade of misty blue, I think of you and wonder where on earth you are. Sometimes it’s a song, playing on my radio…wishing you were singing along.” “Dixie Lullaby” is an apologue song about Green’s father with bereft lyrics like, “My father had skin like leather, hands like steel…he’d come home tired and dirty almost every night…found the strength to smile at me.” “Feels Just Like It Should” is a feel good anthem with lines like, “Let’s jump in my El Camino, roll the windows down so we can see what kind of trouble we can find in this messed up little town.” The king of rock refrains himself, Bruce Springsteen even gets a shout out in the song with, “The ‘Boss’ on the radio.” “Finder’s Keepers” is a duet with female vocalist Sara Evans and Green’s resonant vocals set off against Evans’ perky ones. Pat Green’s “Cannonball” does just what the title implies; it hits you hard with encouraging tunes and good old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll.
