Salvatore Licitra - Forbidden Love
- The second solo album by tenor Salvatore Licitra runs the gambit from inspiring strains to utterly gut-wrenching ballads. The first track grabs listeners right off with Licitra’s hauntingly booming voice. The second track has whimsical music from the ensemble as a backdrop to Licitra’s astounding vocals. The third song begins with Licitra uttering, “Mama,” so listeners can anticipate a grief-stricken tune. The fourth song could be Licitra lamenting about a passion that has since faded, his misery-laden voice and synchronizing music denote just that. The fifth song emits dashed hopes in both the orchestral work and Licitra’s dramatic voice. The seventh song one could envision hearing back in the days of the Coliseum when a fighter would be victorious and Licitra would be called upon to sing in honor of the win. The eighth song could be one about searching as Licitra speeds up his vocals, which doesn’t diminish their potency. If listeners like a strong opera singer with a voice that will reach into your heart and never let go then Salvatore Licitra’s “Forbidden Love” is an album not to be missed.
