Groundation - Upon the Bridge
- An album with a Caribbean texture and island instruments encompasses Groundation’s “Upon the Bridge.” “What Could Have Been” has tenor saxophone work from Jason Robinson and Nyabinghi drum work from Harrison Stafford, as well as his exotic vocals. “Down” has Hammond organ work from Marcus Urani and lines like, “It was just a thought in the air.” “Me Na In De” has more drum work ad percussion from Stafford and guitar work from Urani. Stafford’s high-pitched vocals add a windswept angle to the album but the sound might not fit every music lover's palate. “Ratant Crow” has more percussion work from Urani. Each time Stafford uses his out-of-the-way voice, a different timbre emerges giving every song its own zest. Needless to say, Groundation’s “Upon the Bridge” is an acquired taste and hits the spot for fans of a far-off type of music but might miss the mark for others.
