Oh No
In their sophomore offering, Swedish rock quartet OK Go doesn't disappoint fans where many others fall flat. Oh No is a collection of ultra-catchy rock and roll songs surely coming to an I-Pod commercial near you. Their first single, "Here it Goes Again," became instant water-cooler conversation after an innovative performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, involving four treadmills and some killer choreography. Their music video for the single has since received YouTube immortality as easily being one of the most passed along videos of the year.
Oh No is an album to which you can listen start to finish without the slightest urge to skip a track along the way. Besides "Here it Goes Again" and "Do What You Want" (the second single), songs that shouldn't be missed are the opening song "Invincible." "Let it Rain," and "The House Wins." "Let it Rain" is as close to a ballad as OK Go gets in the midst of this smart, fast-paced frenzy.
Make no mistake -- this is not the most sophisticated alt rock album you will pick up this year. But who needs sophistication when you're throwing a house party or driving 90 in your German sports car? This album may soon be an advertising darling for Corporate America, but my advice is to pick it up now and get sick of it way before everyone else.
