Rodrigo y Gabriela - Rodrigo y Gabriela
- An album that is unmitigated joy to a listener's ears is how to describe Rodrigo y Gabriela’s self-titled third album. Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero make their acoustic guitars whimper with the unadulterated passion with which they strum them. “Tamacun” is a spunky track that is just the ticket to get the album started and could make listeners wait with bated breath for the other fevered tracks on the album. “Diablo Rojo” is a roaring track that could accompany a bullfight in a movie with its hulking intensity. “Vikingman” has what sounds like static in the intro, then descends into a song that could be in a motion picture where the main character makes a fateful discovery. It has violin work from Roby Lakatos. “Satori” has a tremendous buildup that could be in the background of a showdown between two archenemies in a drama flick and could make listeners anticipate its crescendo. “Ixtapa,” one could effortlessly Tango to, with its sharp licks. “Stairway to Heaven” is Sanchez and Quintero’s remake of a rock mainstay with a flamboyant spin, which makes the track a wholly different animal altogether. If you're a connoisseur of acoustic rock, but with some unorthodox flavors mixed in, then Rodrigo y Gabriela's latest album will whet your appetite.
