Threes
Sparta's Threes has multiple changes from their previous recordings...a new record label and a new guitar player, for starters, and the changes personify the band's Emo sound. The first song has a rather shocking title, "Untreatable Disease," and is a horrific tune with malevolent lyrics like, "Broken ties crashing around me/the future is on the take." "Crawl" has guitar work from Keeley Davis and Jim Ward and drum work from Tony Hajjar. It has thoughtful lyrics like, "Lies are on display, there is nothin' left to say, there is nothin' left to do." "Unstitch Your Mouth" is another abnormal title for a song, but its lyrics bespeak of standing up for oneself, with lines like, "Find your backbone and start a fight." "Taking Back Control" has more of a rock feel than the other tracks, with more guitar work from Davis and Ward, as well as Pedal Steel Guitar work from Chris Henrich. It has somewhat hopeful lyrics like, "We hope, you pray but today is still today." "Erase It Again" has lyrics about frustration, with lines like, "You put your fist in the ground, you say you fight to forget /but baby nothin' has changed today, you can't go on this way, you can't move on, erase it and start it again." Sparta's Threes is a departure from the band's earlier offerings, but shows that this band has what it takes to make it on the music scene and that they are here to stay.
