Joe Avati - The Best of Joe Avati Live
- For those not familiar, Joe Avati is an Italian-Australian comic who is extremely popular amongst Italians living in both Australia and Canada. This is mostly because he delivers his observational humor in a constant mix of English and Calabrais (Southern Italian dialect), resulting in a very unique style of which die-hard fans can’t get enough.
Lucky for this critic, I actually have some family origins in Calabria, and know just enough of the language to decipher Avati’s hilarious ribbings on weddings, parents, and his forte – Italian grandparents. Exceptionally funny and self-explanatory tracks include “Nonna Don’t Get Technology,” and the timeless “Nonno’s Car Accident.”
Chances are, if you don’t know any Italian, or have a hard time picking up Australian accents, The Best of Joe Avati Live is going to sound like gibberish over a laugh track. If it’s your niche, prepare to laugh until you cry.
