Carlos Mencia - Take a Joke America
- Hispanic comedian, Carlos Mencia, now of Comedy Central’s Mind of Mencia fame, brings his racially charged, observational humor from an HBO special to audio disc in Take a Joke America. Mencia gives a passionate performance, at times philosophical and at other times outraged, about the current state of American culture. Half of the routine is shouted at the audience, which doesn’t necessarily make it any funnier, but Mencia’s style definitely falls into a love-it-or-hate-it situation.
The sidesplitting moments include his take on fixing the disparities of our education system, in which everyone should be required to carry around a card with their GPA on it. Anyone with a “C” average may only have sex with a “B” or “A” student to even out the playing field. Mencia also blasts America’s obsession with political correctness – claiming that the Taco Bell dog doesn’t make Mexicans look stupid, but rather makes Chihuahuas look smart. He also notes that he didn’t see any rednecks getting upset over the Budweiser frogs.
Take a Joke America is a very funny routine, and one I enjoyed more than his weekly offering on Mind of Mencia. If you are, in fact, able to take a joke, then listen to this album.
