John Waite - Downtown Journey of a Heart
- John Waite’s Downtown Journey of a Heart is a collection of his greatest hits, but with new twists to them that will delight his diehard fans. “The Hard Way” has electric guitar play from Shane Fontayne, Anthony Krizan, Tom Bukovac and Jimmy Leahy. It is about a girl and the troubles in her love life, with lines like, “Rippin’ out the filters of a cigarette, cryin’ loves me, love me not.” “In Dreams” has acoustic guitar play from Fontayne, Krizan, Jeffrey Steele, Bukovac, and Leahy. Waite talks about a time he would like to extricate from his mind, with lines like, “In my life I’ve seen such things that I wish I had not seen. Through your eyes I can let it go.” “Blue Venus” is a short power ballad-like intro that is a potent snippet in the middle of the album. Alison Krauss does a cover of Waite’s smash hit, “Missing You.” Along with drum work from Tony Beard and Greg Morrow, Krauss emotes such memorable lines as, “Every time I think of you, I always catch my breath, and I’m still standin’ here and you’re miles away, wonderin’ why you left.” John Waite’s Downtown Journey of a Heart (Frontiers) is a look back at the astonishingly successful career of a gifted artist, who knows how to make his fans happy by improving on old standbys and making them new again.
