Calla - Strength In Numbers
- A reverent tone blended together with a vocalist who has a gruff voice that could make the hair on a listener’s back stand on end while he utters introspective lines describes Calla’s Strength In Numbers. The first track begins with a contemplative flow, complete with nature sounds like bees buzzing. The second track has guitar work and the throaty vocalist bleeds out reserved yet abrasive lines like, “It’s harder than you think. There’s nothin’ that I need aside from you to be…It’s taken its toll on you.” The third track tells the tale of a woman who has been abused and how it has stolen a part of her, with lines like, “A subtle smile you couldn’t place cuz it was slapped off her face...Whose patience is now tested.” The fourth track has a warlike tone with its marching beat, yet the intro sounds eerily like the beginning of Paula Cole’s smash hit, “I Don’t Want To Wait,” and speaks of a boy’s journey homeward, with lines like, “Sleep tight, he’s fine. See, he’s probably on his way home, he wouldn’t leave us all alone.” Calla’s Strength In Numbers has strange tracks combined with instrument play and a vocalist that give each song a freakish yet soothing bend.
