Papercranes - Vidalia
- Outlandish music with spellbinding lyrics make up Papercranes’s Vidalia. The first track has a phantasmal vibe to it with the female vocalist talking in a spectral tone, with lyrics like, “Where would we go, if we left tomorrow? To the land of the sun…When you showed me...You made it look easy.” The second track has drum work along with harmonizing from the female vocalist. She croons about how she can always count on a certain someone when she needs help and yet queries about their connection, with lyrics like, “I always lean on you, even when you can’t stand up, and I’m sure you're true. Even when you can’t tell me nothin’…Still want to know that you need me. There’s no one in this wide world that I need to be your girl. Am I the treasure in your chest?” The fourth track has the female vocalist stating her feelings in an unembellished tone, with lyrics like, “You don’t have to like me, just hold me now. I might not be the right seed, give up and trust, trust comes from what you don’t see. You don’t see lies.” The fifth song has an ominous intro stuffed with guitar and low beating drums. It’s a song that could be in a horror flick as a female character is unknowingly being stalked. The baneful sentiment continues, with lyrics like, “Oh, open your eyes and see that I’m here next to you. Oh, open your eyes and see you're gonna be with me for a while.” Vidalia, by Papercranes, is an album filled with a mixture of foreboding songs and lyrics that might spook listeners, but the melodies are so anodyne that they can draw you in without your knowledge.
