Carey Ott - Lucid Dream
- With his songs being featured on the ABC hit drama, Grey’s Anatomy, besides garnering sizable downloads on the well-known music web site, emusic.com, Carey Ott’s career is taking off. His album, Lucid Dream, is a pool of songs, some of which have a cogent vibe while others have a harder edge, but all have deeply reflective lyrics. “Am I Just One” has guitar work from Ott along with drum play from Shannon Forest. It deals with Ott speculating if he is just another task on a certain woman’s to-do list, with lines like, “I wanna meet you and make you feel the same…What you do to me, you got a lot of things going on, am I just one?” “Daylight” has a darker flow and muses about how Ott’s perception of his paramour has mutated with lines like, “Expensive restaurants and cheap hotels. You can forget till it makes no sense. Black, black nights and promise rings. You can never get your mind back. Back to the way it was when you were daylight for me. When the sky was so black you couldn’t see.” “Hard to Change” has striking guitar work from Ott as well as keyboard work from Ed Tinley and more drum play from Forest. It talks about the heartbreak love can induce, with lines like, “No more light so get used to the dark. Spend some time with the hurt that’s in your heart. Then sittin’ here many times before. You don’t need the key when you’ve broken down the door. Is it love and happiness or another hopeless little accident? Love can be too hard on your brain. Let it close your eyes for you and you’ll never see the same. Put a scar on your heart, it’s hard to change.” Carey Ott’s Lucid Dream is a hypnotic bunch of songs that have a meditative quality and will send you into a relaxed state of consciousness.
