The Ratchets - Glory Road
- The Ratchets, hailing from Asbury Park, New Jersey, unleash a fury of punk rock bliss (and a smidge of reggae) on their new album, Glory Road. If you haven’t heard of this band, it’s because they are just starting to take off – climbing the college radio charts as we speak. They aren’t on iTunes, so don’t bother looking there; it’s MySpace or bust for now.

If you want a comparable sound, think Rancid with dashes of Sublime. The best tracks are “Book of Law,” “Human Amplifiers,” and “Irritated.” If you want to hear some of that real reggae flavor, check out “Proclamation Time.” The Ratchets score highly on their ability to get the adrenaline pumping while spewing some coherent and meaningful lyrics.

Glory Road is a very good effort from a small-town band still searching for a big break. It’s hard to tell whether they will reach that next echelon in the music business, but for now they will continue playing their hardest and pleasing their fans.
