Brad Shepik Trio - Places You Go
- “...Quirky, intricate, and fun...Shepik is a guitarist with impressive technique,” Allmusic.com raves about jazz enthusiast, Brad Shepik. “But it’s not his technique that you really notice: it’s his compositional style and his ability to lead bassist, Scott Colley, and drummer, Tom Rainey, confidently into the uncharted wilds of his compositions. The fact that they can follow him with equal confidence and poise is no less impressive. Their next album can’t come out fast enough.”
Shepik and his band give off an upbeat, feel good, kind of vibe in their music. Almost every song on their new album, Places You Go, makes you want to get up and move. Their album is due out in the United States on February 13th.
On this album, Shepik strums the guitar loosely and soulfully, even to almost mistake him as the great Carlos Santana. “I don’t have any hard and fast views about using effects on the guitar, it depends on the music, the group, the band sound, how I feel about it. The only thing I’ve noticed about effects is that they can sometimes cover up your touch. You hear the effect more than the hands...I do enjoy the refining and searching that goes on with trying to make it happen with the guitar and the hands (and the pick, of course).”
