Genre Peak - Ends of the Earth
- An album filled with distressing messages but abstract instrument work, Genre Peak’s Ends of the Earth, is a network of mixed messages where some listeners might not know exactly where the band is coming from with their intent. “Bring Me the World” has apocalyptic synthesizer and drum work blended with electronic sounds akin to lasers being bandied about. One can envision glints ricocheting off patrons in an electronica club as they shift their bodies to this song. Its lyrics are ominous, with lines like, “Now I’m betting you're forgetting what was said. Between the sheets is where we’ll meet when we’re dead.” “Always Empty” continues with the fast-paced, futuristic sounds and more synthesizer and drum work along with it. The track speaks of a defeatist mind-set and the feeling that all faith is lost, with lines like, “Come be my witness, you won’t want to miss this. As my world is coming down around me.” “Pleasure to Burn” is heavy on the guitar synthesizer and electronic percussion and the title could make listeners insinuate an upbeat song awaits them, but they will be proven wrong, with lines that give some disturbing imagery such as, “Hello darkness…I come to comfort you, cuz I’m known by reputation and I’m known by my disease.” Genre Peak’s Ends of the Earth, has proficient and unique instrument work but the joyless lyrics and tone takes away the band’s musical efficiency. Genre Peak should inspect their lyrical choices so listeners don’t get turned off by their dark tidings.
