Malajube - Trompe-L’Oeil
- Malajube’s debut album, Trompe-L’Oeil, brings together indiscriminate instruments and takes fragments from parallel sounding bands to make up a chaotic beat that is interesting to listen to but might bewilder others. The lyrics are all in French so if you want to be able to comprehend the music you hear to them you might be at a loss. “Jus de Canneberges” has drum and guitar work from Francis Mineau, and Ryan Battistuzzi lends his guitar skills to the track as well. There is also piano play from Thomas Augustin. The vocals have a phantom-like tone to them which could spook listeners. “Montréal -40ºC” has electric guitar and drum play from Mineau as well as synthesizer work from Augustin. “Pâte Filo” keeps on with the guitar play from Mineau. This track also has Mineau promoting an instrument not normally found on most albums, the megaphone. The application of it brings about a rowdy vibe that might turn you off with its brash use. “Le Crabe” has more drum, guitar work and cymbal play from Mineau. Malajube’s Trompe-L’Oeil is a unique album in terms of instruments but if you don’t know French then you won’t be able to understand what the band is trying to convey with their lyrics.
