Jenny Dalton
Fleur de Lily

Minneapolis-based Jenny Dalton is sultry and impressive in her independently labeled debut CD, Fleur de Lily. Dalton sounds years ahead of her musical age, and even better when you find out that she has never had any formal training and cannot read music. These minor details haven't stopped Dalton from writing original piano songs since the age of 8.

Fleur de Lily is a collection of deeply personal piano-centric recordings, many of which were inspired by a relationship with a soldier who was deployed to Iraq. "At Ease," the opening track and possibly best song on the album, speaks of a two-week visit home from the soldier. "Bad Day" and "Iraqi Sky" are self-explanatory titles, but Dalton's soothing tone gives a feeling of hope to even the most tragic of lyrics.

Dalton's sound can safely be compared to Tori Amos, with a slight influence from The Cranberries (although fans should not expect big rock vocals here, just the Irish accent). Dalton is touring the U.S. club circuit now, according to her website, and would be an interesting act to check out live.
