Liam Lawton - Time
- An album filled with inspirited songs and testimonials of eternal love, as well as apologies for misunderstandings and hurt feelings, describes Liam Lawton’s Time. Each song impassions you to the summit of emotion and in some cases, goes over the line and lets the listener experience the profoundness that Lawton hopes to express with his music.
“Believe” opens the record with placid chanting in the intro by a female vocalist. Its hypnotic beat could make listeners believe they are in an illusion with its whimsical rhythm. But the appeasement slowly picks up steam with help from piano play, electronic sounds and acoustic guitar. Lawton’s powerful voice then enters the picture. He proceeds to exclaim lines that you might take as spiritual in meaning, such as, “I will sing you a different song…I will dance to a different beat guided by my hand and feet. I will play you a different tune, voices that will call to you.” These lyrics can be interpreted in varied ways, depending on the listener, but they are stirring nonetheless.
“Ever Have The Time” brings in compelling violin play in the intro, along with piano work for a sweet song. On this track, Lawton imposes his resolute voice to communicate queries about how to articulate his adoration to the one he loves, with lines like, “If I could count my blessings on my hands. If I could speak the words your heart would understand. Is there something left that love has left to show? If I could read the wisdom of your mind.” The ache in his voice comes through, beyond a doubt, and it could pain a listener to hear it.
“Diamond in the Dark” is a love ballad fraught with expert piano play. Lawton expounds on how his relationship has suffered setbacks and yet it has remained strong, with lines like, “In the memory of time, I’ve written many lines. Our love has tried and love has failed. Oh how it stood the test of time…Despite our faults and fears, you brighten up my darkest night, you lengthen days to years.”
“There Is A Place” is another faultless love ballad filled with dazzling piano work. On this track, Lawton emotes about times gone by and how one should never forget them, whether good or bad, with lines like, “There’s a time to remember. There’s a time to recall. The trials. The triumphs. The fears and the faults.”
Time, by Liam Lawton, is a masterful expression of gleeful emotions, as well as one that will rip your heart from your chest. Lawton conveys everything with such tenacity that you can’t help but be enveloped in his spell.
