John Reuben - Word of Mouth
- Listening to John Reuben's most recent album, Word of Mouth, his music has a different feel to it. It's not just rock and it's not just hip-hop. It is really right in between, although it is classified as "Christian." Not only does his music have a little of the similar style of the artist Beck, but Reuben also raps in his songs as well.
Reuben's musical inspirations include: De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Hieroglyphics, Pharcyde. The sound on the album is direct, strong and powerful. His words and tone have a deep, hidden meaning, more than the listener may hear.
Reuben is happy with the way his career has been taking off and the sound of his music. Many artists feel they need to keep a certain profile or style to maintain their career; Reuben, however, feels differently. "I've been fortunate enough to make albums I believe in and still maintain a career."
