The Very Best of the Doobie Brothers

A two-disc collection that showcases both current and past members of one of the biggest selling male musical groups of all time, The Very Best of the Doobie Brothers, encapsulates many of the band's greatest hits, all digitally remastered for unbelievable sound quality.

Disc one begins with a song the band is known for, "Listen to the Music." The effervescent beat of the song just snags you from the first note. The drum play from current group member Michael Hossack, as well as past members Chet McCracken, Keith Knudsen and John Hartman, make the track even livelier. The guitar play from ex-member Jeff "Skunk" Baxter and current member John McFee bring the track full circle as the lyrics instill that feel good vibe, with lines such as, "Let the music play/Welcome people/There's a way to make them smile." A grin will definitely cross your face as you listen to this Doobie Brothers standard.

"Jesus Is Just Alright" is next and has an upbeat tone as the band expresses their feeling about the devout figure. The vocal harmonies here are stellar as is the guitar and drum work. Percussion play from Hossack, and ex-members Knudsen, Bobby LaKind and Hartman, gives a heavenly tone to the song. You can feel that the band truly believes what they are saying as they extol lines like, "Jesus is just alright with me, yeah, I don't care what they may say."

"Rockin' Down the Highway" is the perfect driving song for that long road trip down either a strip of asphalt you know well, or some unknown breadth that will take you to a new destination. All the previously mentioned elements are back, such as the guitar and drum work. Bass work from ex-member Tiran Porter and Dave Shogren adds even more juice to the track. The carefree vibe of putting your worries to the wind are encased, with lines such as, "Got those highway blues. Can't you hear the motor runnin'? Flyin' down the road with my foot on the floor, all the way down. Can you hear me comin'?" You can envision blasting this song as you are launching down that road at speeds comparable to flying.

Disc two begins with ex-member Michael McDonalds's singular vocals on "Little Darling." The percussion work from Hossack, Knudsen, LaKind and Hartman backs up McDonald's deep resounding vocals.

Another classic Doobie Brothers song, "What A Fool Believes," follows. The harmonizing by the vocal members of the group, especially McDonald's unique voice, shines through.

The Very Best of the Doobie Brothers, by the Doobie Brothers, is a true anthology of all the band's most loved tracks. It is an album that is a must have for diehard fans.
